Although I have loved trains for as far back as I can remember and my dad was a member of the local club, I can only say I have been in the hobby of model railroading since the late eighties. Granted I was still a child at this point and in the grand scheme of this hobby I still am (I am only in my mid-thirties). While I never truly left the hobby I did go through several periods where I was only collecting and not actively modeling. Recently my three year old daughter has expressed an interest in trains and so I figured now was as good of a time as any to start thinking about my permanent layout. Although I do not have room for the large empire I envision at this time, my loving and understanding wife (although she does at times think the hobby is silly) has assured me that space will be granted in our retirement house. For the time being I get to put my history degree to work and research and learn everything I can about a railroad that is no more (especially since UP can't seem to tear down the SP stuff fast enough). The idea of this site is to document the development of my layout from research (present stage) through construction and operations as well as any moves during the process. This site also is a way to facilitate communication with others in the hobby as my job has me working odd hours which currently precludes me from joining the local club. I hope that visitors will leave constructive feed back and if they happen to have any information on Yuma Arizona in the 70's, 80's and 90's that they would share that info with me.
Thanks and enjoy,
Morgan
